Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Chairman David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights:
- The Board voted to proclaim September 28, 2024 as National Good Neighbor Day in Kern County.
- Item No. 2 AM session:
- The Board voted to proclaim September 27, 2024 as California Native American Day and September 28 – 29, 2024 as the Tejon Indian Tribe’s annual Pow Wow in Kern County.
- Item No. 3 AM session:
- The Board voted to proclaim Friendship Force of Kern County as the host for Romanian librarians to visit Kern County libraries from September 27 through October 5, 2024.
- Item No. 4 AM session:
- The Board voted to proclaim September 2024 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Kern County.
- Item No. 33 AM session:
- The Board approved a funding agreement with the California Department of Public Health – Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health Division, for home visitation program services through June of 2025.
- This program provides direct support to local first-time mothers and their children to improve pregnancy outcomes, child development, and economic self-sufficiency.
- Item No. 57 AM session:
- The Board heard a hearing pursuant to the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibilities Act to approve the use of $15,000,000 in multifamily housing revenue bonds by the Housing Authority of the County of Kern for the Pioneer Drive Apartment project, consisting of an 85-unit affordable multifamily rental housing project.
- Item No. 4 PM session:
- The Board voted to authorize Planning and Natural Resources and Public Works to implement relief actions for specific requirements of the Kern County Zoning Ordinance in support of those impacted by the Borel Fire.
- Item No. 5 PM session:
- The Board voted to authorize Planning and Natural Resources to submit applications for the Development Block Grant 50th Anniversary Awards for various park improvement projects.
- Items No. 11 – 13 PM session:
- The Board identified a series of low, responsive, and responsible bids and approved contracts with various service providers for road rehabilitation projects across the unincorporated communities of Bakersfield.
- Item No. 31 PM session:
- The Board approved an agreement with the Sheriff-Coroner in the amount of $700,000 and Probation Department in the amount of $200,000 to participate in the Kern County Fentanyl Misuse and Overdose Prevention Task Force from September 24, 2024 through January 1, 2026.
- Item No. 32 PM session:
- The Board voted to release and appropriate funds from the Renewable Energy Neighborhood Enhancement Wind Business Investment Zone (RENEWBIZ) for the Rosamond Park Improvements project.
- Item No. 34 PM session:
- The Board voted to contribute $1,200 to the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County, $100 to the Delano Kiwanis Club, $500 to the Delano Hometown Heros Parade, $500 to the Delano Harvest Holiday Association, and $1,000 to the Philippine Weekend Festival.
- Item No. 37 PM session:
- The Board voted to identify a low, responsive, and responsible bid, and approve a contract with JCJ Chavez Construction, Inc., for the Leroy Jackson New Playground and Surfacing Project.
- Item No. 39 PM session:
- The Board voted to identify a low, responsive, and responsible bid, and approve a contract with Proffitt Construction Inc., dba Superior Construction, for the Fuller Acres Community Park Development.
